Trackbeth, an adaptation of Shakespeare's original Macbeth, explores themes of parental pressure while intertwining themes of fair and foul.
Plot summary
Based on the loose hierarchy and order of power in a high school sport, Trackbeth features a talented junior track runner, Mackenna Macbeth. In her latest meet, she performed amazingly well, and her teammates consider moving her up to varsity. The next day, along with her best friend, Bailey Banquo, Mackenna receives a prophecy from a creepy trainer that predicts that she will soon make varsity, and later become the team captain. This prediction comes true when she learns that one of the best varsity runners on the team has transferred, and she has been promoted to take her place. When a team meeting reveals that MacKenna is not, in fact, scheduled to replace the captain, Daisy Duncan, she becomes frustrated and goes to her mother for advice. Later, with badgering from her mom, Mackenna resolves to injure her beloved team captain in order to take her place.
